    Building Student\u27s Interest In Writing By Describe And Identify Game

    Absract: The classroom action research of building students\u27 interest aims to reveal the problem of students writing and their involvement in learning activities. Triangulation approach was administered as the technique of data analysis. The use of student and teacher observation sheet, field note, focus group interviews and questionnaire are instruments of data collection. By conducting three cycles of action research, the researcher found out that the improvement from cycle to cycle did not only occur to the teaching practice but also to the students\u27 involvement and the increasing students\u27 interest. Describe and Identify game facilitated students to be interest in learning writing. The activities of the game did not only encourage the students to write the descriptive text but also changed the students\u27 perception of learning writing

    The Effectiveness Of Using Problem Posing In Improving Students Reading Comprehension

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using problem posing technique in improving students reading comprehension to the first semester students of the English Education Program Students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tanjungpura University Pontianak, thus the appropriate method applied was pre-experimental research. The data was obtained by using measurement technique in form of multiple choice tests consisted of 20 items which was applied in Pre-Test and Post-Test. The sample consisted of 25 students. The finding of this research showed that Problem Posing Technique was effective to teach reading comprehension. The t-test (3,18) is higher than the t-table (2,06) on the level of significance 5%. Based on the computation of effect size, the use of Problem Posing Technique was effective to increase the student ability in comprehending the text, the score of ES > 0,9 and categorized as high

    A Model Of Reading Materials For Public Health Students, Faculty Of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University Of Pontianak

    Teaching reading for specific purposes requires proper teaching and learning materials as the materials play significant roles in teaching process. The present, reading materials for Public Health students of Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak are still very far from students' need. This study aimed at developing a model of reading materials for Public Health students. Using a development study of ADDIE instructional design of Dick and Carrey, twenty five second semester students of Health Sciences Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Pontianak, participated in this study. The results revealed that the reading materials that were developed in ADDIE model were accepted by both experts and the students. The materials aligned to the learning aims, covered the student-centered activity, Public Health topic, easy to difficult vocabulary level, student-centered activity and glossary study, and provided in graded and assorted tasks. It is highly expected that this study will encourage the lecturers of English subject to be more active in developing qualified teaching materials as both lecturers and students will be helpful and facilitative with the product

    The purpose of this research is to find the cultural content and context in the textbook “When English Rings A Bell”. The method of this research is content analysis. There was one type of tool of colecting data in content analysis the researcher used matrix in cultural category based on malay culture perspective and interviewed the owner of Malay culture to get the information in source culture. The study finds that The books present mostly the source culture (Indonesian Culture) in comparison to target culture and International culture. This ratio is quite ideal as English is taught as a Foreign Language thus English textbook in Indonesian context are aimed at focusing more on local content while introducing the learners to the target culture and International. From the source culture there is 67 % Pontianak Malay content, it is indicated that the books is compatible in the culture context . Based on Littlejohn framework has been recomended to be used

    Teaching Descriptive Text Writing By Using Attribute Listing To Smk

    The aim of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of teaching descriptive text writing by using attribute listing technique to the tenth grade students of Marketing program of SMK Negeri 3 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. This research was done by conducting a pre experimental study which consists of pretest, posttest and three times of treatments. The sample of this research is class X Marketing 2 and the total of the students is 34. The data had been collected by measurements techniques. The tool of data collecting was writing test. The finding of the research showed that the mean score of students' pretest was 51.12 while the posttest was 76.18. The students' achievement was increased by the different score between pretest and posttest was 25.03. The was higher than the (16.69>2.042 at α 5%). The result of the effect size (ES) was 2.86. It means that teaching descriptive text writing by using attribute listing technique to the tenth grade students of Marketing Program of SMK Negeri 3 Pontianak is categorized as highly effective with the Effect Size (ES) > 0.8 (2.86 > 0.8)

    The Use of Story Book “Peewee at the Farm” in Introducing English to Kindergarten

    . This research was conducted in Level B kindergarten students at TK Kristen Immanuel I Pontianak which is located at JL. Gajah Mada No. 250, Pontianak, Kalimantan Barattoprove that the use of story book “Pee Wee at the Farm” is an effective way to introduce English.In collecting the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative assessment by using interview and observation sheet as the qualitative assessment, and oral test as the quantitative assessment where the students were asked some questions and repeated them.In the result it can be found that introducing English to kindergarten students using story book “Pee Wee at the Farm” was an effective way to attract and motivate the students' interest in English.It was shown that all of the 20 students got the extraordinary score, means that the students were able to repeat and understand more than 7 simple sentences taught based on the story book. There were 18 students got the perfect score, means that the students were able to repeat and understand all 10 simple English sentences. There was only one student that was able to repeat and understand 7 sentences and only one student that was able for 8 sentences

    Email: [email protected] Abstract: This Research aimed to answer the research questions about the significant and the size effect of the use of PowerPoint Animations in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text. This research used a pre-experimental study in one group pretest posttest design. The data of this research were collected by using measurement technique that was written test in the form of essay test numbering 10 items. The population of this research was the Second Year students of SMA Negeri 1 Kembayan in Academic Year 2012/2013 numbering 106 students. The sample of this research was 30 students (class XI IPA 1). The finding of this research showed that PowerPoint Animations increased the students\u27 achievement in reading comprehension significantly. Then, the effect size of treatment (ES= 1.34 > 0.8) and categorized as highly effective. Key words: Teaching Reading Comprehension, Narrative, PowerPoint Animations. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian mengenai signifikan dan tingkat efektifitas dari penggunaan animasi powerpoint dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca di dalam teks naratif. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi pre-eksperimen dengan disain satu grup pretest posttest. Data penelitian ini didapatkan dengan menggunakan teknik pengukuran yaitu tes tertulis dalam bentuk essai berjumlah 10 soal. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa tahun ke dua dari SMA Negeri 1 Kembayan tahun ajaran 2012/2013 berjumlah 160 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 30 siswa (kelas XI IPA). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa powerpoint animasi meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam pemahaman membaca secara signifikan. Kemudian, pengukuran dari ukuran keefefktifan (ES=1.34>0.8) dan dikategorikan tingkat effektifitasnya tinggi
